Ambiance and Setting

Miyako has a really charming interior that manages to feel both family-friendly and a little upscale at the same time. The space is clean and well-kept, with modern, stylish decor throughout. A few fun details caught my eye right away, there’s a cute little fish tank tucked behind the bar, a cozy chair right as you walk in that gives off welcoming vibes, and a couple of coin machine games in the front lobby that make it a great spot for families. On the dining side, you’ll find cozy booths and tables with chairs, perfect for a relaxed evening out. It’s the kind of place that feels polished without being pretentious.

Menu Highlights

Miyako’s menu is impressively broad. On the sushi side, you’ll find both traditional raw rolls and a full cooked sushi menu, (great news for anyone who’s sushi-curious but not quite ready to take the full plunge). The hibachi menu is equally robust, covering everything from classic proteins like steak and shrimp to vegetarian-friendly options like tofu. You can browse the full menu here.

Standout items worth calling out:

  • Tempura Shrimp – A classic appetizer done exceptionally well
  • Teriyaki Tofu – A surprisingly exciting dish with a katsu-style coating
  • Hibachi Shrimp & Scallops – Rich, flavorful, and perfectly sauced
  • Teriyaki Steak – Melt-in-your-mouth tender

Experience

I dined at Miyako on a Monday evening with my mom and a friend, arriving around 6 PM. We were immediately greeted by a friendly host and decided to try the dining side, where we were seated in a comfy booth, which is always a good start.

We kicked things off with a shared appetizer of Tempura Shrimp. Now, I know tempura is a staple at pretty much every hibachi-style restaurant, but this one genuinely stood out. The outside was perfectly crispy, the inside of each piece was never soggy, and the tempura dipping sauce was wonderful. Simple, but done right.

For our entrees, we each went a different direction: I opted for the Teriyaki Tofu, my mom went with the Hibachi Shrimp and Scallops, and my friend ordered the Teriyaki Steak. Before our mains arrived, we each got a salad and a cup of miso soup, and the portions were generous from the start. The miso soup came loaded with extra tofu pieces, and there was a very generous helping of ginger dressing on the salad. No skimping here!

When the entrees arrived, I was pleasantly surprised all over again. The fried rice (which we all ordered as a side) came in a hearty portion, and my tofu dish was massive. I’m talking more than one meal’s worth; I happily took half of it home. My Teriyaki Tofu had a katsu-style coating and was drizzled with teriyaki sauce, a genuinely interesting preparation that I absolutely loved.

Okay so, I may have snuck a few bites from my fellow diners (no regrets), and let me tell you, the steak melted in my mouth and the shrimp with teriyaki sauce had such an incredible flavor that it almost made me wish I’d ordered that instead. Almost.

Insider Tips

  • Go on a Monday evening — when we visited, the dining side was nearly empty, making it the perfect time to enjoy a relaxed meal without wait times or crowds.
  • Don’t skip the Tempura Shrimp appetizer — it’s a classic for a reason, and Miyako does it especially well. The hibachi entrees are also a must-try.
