Some places you stumble onto by accident and just never forget. That was Little Spoon Bakery & Cafe for me, we spotted it on a whim while walking through Newport on the Levee after a movie at the AMC, ducked in, and immediately filed it away as a place we had to come back to.
Fast forward to this spring: we were already planning a trip to Smoke on the River BBQ Fest just down the way, and I figured, what better way to end a day of smoked meats than with a stop at a charming little bakery? Spoiler: we were absolutely right. Macarons and cinnamon rolls after a full day of BBQ is a decision I will never regret.

🏮 Ambiance
Little Spoon is one of those spaces that’s small but gets everything right. The blue walls, the pastries lined up on display, the bright lighting that makes everything look a little more cheerful, it all adds up to somewhere you genuinely want to linger. It’s cozy without feeling cramped, and the seating situation is just enough: not a huge café, but you’re not fighting for a spot either. When we walked in it was quiet, but a line formed pretty quickly behind us, which tells you everything you need to know about how good the word-of-mouth is on this place.

A quick note on finding it: the entrance is a little tricky if it’s your first time. Park in the Newport on the Levee garage, the same one you’d use for the Newport Aquarium, make your way into the main Gallery building like you’re heading toward the movie theater, and it will be on the ground floor downstairs. Once you know where you’re going it’s easy, but don’t let the first visit throw you off.
🍽️ Menu Highlights / What to Order

The menu at Little Spoon is focused and well-edited, pastries, desserts, and a full espresso bar, and everything is made in-house. The star categories are the jumbo cupcakes, French macarons, and freshly baked pastries, with enough rotating flavors to give you a reason to come back regularly. My advice? Follow their Instagram at @littlespoonnewport before you go, that’s where they announce new and limited flavors, so you know what’s waiting for you before you walk in the door.
Don’t Miss
- French Macarons: We tried the lemon, vanilla, and chocolate on our last visit and they might be our favorite thing on the menu. The lemon tastes exactly like lemon curd, bright, tart, and perfectly balanced. The vanilla is almost too pretty to eat, with a fun blue filling and sprinkles on top. And the chocolate is just straight-up decadent. At $3.25 each they’re an easy yes.
- Cinnamon Roll: Topped with an orange cream cheese icing, and you can actually taste it, there’s a subtle citrus note running through the whole thing that makes it feel a little more special than your average cinnamon roll. Worth every bite.

Also Worth Ordering
- Death by Chocolate Cupcake: One of their jumbo cupcakes and an absolute must for chocolate lovers. We’ve had it before and it delivers exactly what the name promises.
- Scones: A solid, well-made scone. Great with a coffee if you want something a little less sweet.
Drinks
Little Spoon runs a full espresso bar featuring locally roasted Carabello Coffee, a Cincinnati favorite. Lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and more, plus a solid tea selection including an Earl Grey Lavender that caught our eye. Everything pairs well with whatever you’re getting from the pastry case.
⭐ The Experience
We showed up close to closing time, rolling in after a full afternoon at Smoke on the River BBQ Fest just down the way, so we weren’t exactly in a rush, and neither was the place. It was pretty quiet by that point, which honestly made for a lovely low-key visit. We were helped quickly and the staff was warm and friendly, which you appreciate especially when you’re clearly the people who just wandered in at the end of the day smelling like BBQ smoke.
The decision-making process took about thirty seconds flat, we spotted the macarons and that was it. Grabbed a few of those, two cinnamon rolls, and called it a win. At the register I also spotted some stickers they had out, including one of a cinnamon roll that says “I like big buns” (sold) and one with the Little Spoon logo. We took our little haul home and I have zero regrets about any of it.
It’s not a linger-over-your-latte kind of visit if you’re going near closing, but as a treat-yourself stop after an event? Absolutely perfect.
